Jason Coulter
My interest in music began at a very early age. I was probably four years old when I got my first guitar as a Christmas gift from my late grandfather, Millard P. Warren. I can remember as a child, my dad (Barry) casually sitting around the house with his guitar, singing songs that were recorded by Country Music Legends like Merle Haggard & George Jones and that’s when I fell in love with music.
At the age of 15, I joined a country/southern rock band, playing the bass guitar. Our band performed in local clubs, playing everything from Bob Seger to Keith Whitley. It was during this time that I was able to work on timing and chord progression to different types of beats that would help me in the development of my “ear for music”.
At the age of 19, I visited a small Pentecostal church in Geneva, Kentucky and heard a different type of music that I absolutely fell in love with. It was in this small Pentecostal church I was introduced to upbeat hymns and southern gospel music that was filled with the sound of flat top guitars, thumb style guitar picking, Jerry Lee Lewis style piano playing, bluegrass banjo, and three-part harmony singing.
As of today, I serve as worship leader and senior group youth pastor in this same church. Green River Pentecostal Church is located in McKinney, KY.
